VP Naidu meets top Qatar leaders but no meeting with deputy Amir

As India struggled to contain the diplomatic fallout of the controversial remarks by BJP functionaries targeting the Prophet, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu held a series of meetings with Qatar leaders to boost bilateral ties in Doha. One of his meetings though, in the form of a lunch by deputy Amir Sheik Abdullah Bin Ahmed al Thani on Saturday, was called off at the last moment.

India has achieved 10% ethanol blending of petrol five months ahead of schedule, PM Narendra Modi said on Sunday. The achievement has reduced carbon emission by 27 lakh tonne, saved the country Rs 41,000 crore in foreign exchange spending (on oil imports) and boosted income of farmers by Rs 40,000 crore in eight years, the PM said in his address to a ‘Save Soil’ programme organised by the Isha Foundation run by spiritual leader Sadhguru to mark World Environment Day.

Moose Wala killing: Cops hunt for 2 sharpshooters

A day after the arrest of two Fatehabad men, who allegedly provided a Bolero jeep to the assailants of Sidhu Moose Wala, the Punjab police are learned to have zeroed in on two sharpshooters of the Kala Jathedi gang from Sonipat in the shootout. Priyavrat, alias Fauji, of Sisana village in Sonipat district is a wanted criminal and is carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 for killing a gangster’s father. The other one, Ankit Jaati, is a resident of Sersa village of Kundli in Sonipat.

In 4 days of June, Mumbai Covid cases double the March tally

he Covid-19 caseload on the first four days of June underlines the rapidly rising Covid graph in Maharashtra and Mumbai. The June tally so far for the city is 3,095, which is double the entire caseload for March, almost 60% of the April cases and over 50% of the May burden. “There is a rise in cases and we need to be cautious, but this isn’t the fourth wave,” said state public health department’s surveillance officer, Pradip Awate.
